GCLID Not Working? Check If Your Click ID Is Lost or Stripped

If your Google Ads clicks aren't turning into conversions, your GCLID might be getting lost.

This usually happens when:

  • Redirects strip the gclid parameter
  • Landing pages remove query parameters
  • Cross-domain tracking breaks the click ID

Result: Google Ads can't attribute conversions correctly.

How to fix GCLID tracking issues

If your GCLID is missing or not working, check:

  1. Redirects. Make sure redirects preserve query parameters (?gclid=...).
  2. Cross-domain tracking. Use linker parameters if users move between domains so the click ID survives.
  3. URL rewriting. Avoid stripping query parameters for "clean URLs" on paid landing pages.
  4. Consent Mode timing. If consent is denied or delayed, tracking can fail even when gclid is technically in the URL.

For a full diagnosis across consent, tags, and timing, run a complete tracking check on your site.
